Taking the Jihad Temperature - A Gathering Storm Special Series – DISINFORMATION Part 6

If you throw a frog into boiling water, he will jump out. If you put it in cold water and slowly turn up the heat, he will not notice the rise in temperature and will eventually boil.

The Islamists are boiling our frog and though this blog and hundreds like it record almost daily the rise in the Jihad temperature, unless we see how far and fast the temperature has risen, we will not know how far along our boiling has progressed.

So, the Gathering Storm will be posting only once a week but these weekly posts will take the Jihadist temperature by looking back at news and events over the last two years. Over the next several weeks in the areas of intimidationinfiltrationdisinformation and those appeasers and apologists who either knowingly or unknowingly advance the Jihad agenda, the Gathering Storm will show how far our frog has been boiled.

By seeing the boiling water around us, we can see how far the boiling has progressed.

The good news is that we are noticing that the water is getting warmer. There is a glimmer of awareness here - a glimmer of hope there. But we have a long way to go.

Here’s this week’s look back at the rising Jihad temperature of DISINFORMATION !! And remember – this is just a sampling of Jihadist Disinformation. More to follow.

Storm Track Disinformation: Muslims – Muslim Rage is Not New

I’m getting sick and tied of hearing that Muslim rage is a non-Muslim problem and that they were living so peacefully with non-Muslims until we over-reacted to their fundamentalist brethren’s attacks.

The attacks were a horrible act of mass murder, but history says we're overreacting. Has the American reaction to the attacks in fact been a massive overreaction? Is the widespread belief that 9/11 plunged us into one of the deadliest struggles of our time simply wrong? If we did overreact, why did we do so?

That piece of garbage thinking aside, a recent commentary at the Guardian again wants to make non-Muslims feel that all Muslim problems stem from us. Take the recent violent take over by Hamas in Gaza.

With the severe restrictions imposed on them by their western-backed governments and the evaporation of American promises of reform and democratisation, this "democratic Islam" currently finds itself in the grip of a crisis.

Democratic Islam? Isn’t that a contradiction in terms? Oh, plaeeeze! As long as Islam is believed by both moderate and radical Muslims alike that Islam is both a religion and political system, any form of real democracy – and not just the right to vote for your favorite tyranny – will never happen.

Arabs have watched with horror as Palestinians have been severely punished for their electoral choices, isolated, starved, and propelled towards the bottomless pit of internecine feuding. The message from Washington and London seemed to be: don't bother with the ballot box - only through bombings and violence is change possible.

According to the apologists it’s damn if you do and damn if you don’t. Elder of Zion explains.

The argument boils down to this: if Muslims do anything evil, it is because the West has forced them to do it. Muslims who don't want to do anything evil are helpless in the face of overwhelming Western pressure to force those other Muslims to do evil things.

In other words, Muslim terror must be blamed on anyone but Muslims. Muslims are helpless subhumans, with no ability to take care of themselves, no ability to vote for progress, no ability to stand up to extremists - essentially, Muslims are babies who need to be coddled and spoiled by the adults of the West, and there will be deadly temper tantrums if the adults don't do exactly what the infantile Muslims want them to do.

"In an article titled "How the Arabs Explain the Terror Phenomenon" in the Qatari daily Al-Raya, Al-Ansari criticized the ways in which the Arab world denies and ignores the phenomenon of terrorism, and refuted the political and socio-economic arguments justifying it.

"Why has the terrorist violence increased? And why has it reached a level of such madness and barbarism? Why aren't we managing to deal with it and handle it? Why is there a rise in terror operations targeting innocents?

"In my view, the [answer] lies in our inability to explain the phenomenon of terrorism, and to break it down into its structural internal causes and into the environmental elements that support its existence. [This inability] emanates from the following three main causes that are common in the Arab arena as explanations for terrorism:

"The first is the discourse of denial... that is, exonerating Muslims from [any] accusation of [perpetrating] terror operations, and [instead] accusing their enemies - usually the Mossad and U.S. intelligence. An extensive sector of prominent clerics, intellectual elites, and the masses are still convinced that 9/11 was a Mossad or U.S. intelligence operation...

"The second cause is the discourse of defensiveness, as manifested in repeated statements that terrorism has no religion, homeland or nationality, but is a transient virus that is alien [to the Arab world] - or that Islam is innocent [of terrorism].

"The third cause is the discourse of justification, which is extremely common in the religious and media outlets. This discourse tries to link terrorism with political factors, international conflicts or internal socio-economic factors - saying that terrorism is the outcome of political repression by some regimes that strangle freedoms and are hostile to democracy or that terrorism is a response to American and Western injustices, to the policy of discrimination [against Muslims], to the blind pro-Israel bias, and to the global conspiracy against the Muslims…

But none of this is new. In fact Muslim rage has been around long before it hit the headlines after the Cold War. 23 years before the Iranian Revolution and 55 years before the 9/11 terrorist attacks, a section (pages 24-34) of the very first of the intelligence reviews published by the Military Intelligence Division of the U.S. War Department identified Islam as a threat to world stability. In fact here’s a little known view of Islam in 1946.

It would be interesting to know how many of the higher-ups in our intelligence agencies and Defense Department were even aware of this report when the hijacked planes slammed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the Pennsylvania ground. According to its authors, Islamic countries were “full of discontent and frustration” and were aware of their “inferiority.” These feelings manifested themselves in “killings and terrorism,” which were reported in “daily news accounts.” The analysts knew about the feud between the Sunnis and Shi’a. They also knew about Wahabism and the Muslim Brotherhood.

I won’t reproduce in its entirety the section of the report entitled “Islam: A Threat to World Peace”. You can read it all in the report. But here’s something from the last page.

Two basic urges meet head-on in this area, and conflict is inherent in this collision of interests. These urges reveal themselves in daily news accounts of killings and terrorism, of pressure groups in opposition, and of raw nationalism and naked expansionism masquerading as diplomatic maneuvers. The urges tie together the tangled threads of power politics which—snarled in the lap of the United Nations Assembly—lead back to the centers of Islamic pressure and to the capitals of the world’s biggest nations.

That last entry could be written today.

Storm Track Disinformation: Allah’s Blessing to Afghanistan

Gag alert! Put down that coffee and move away from mug.

Deen Al-Islam, aka: The Perfect Way of Life fawned over Allah’s blessing to Afghanistan. What was it? You probably guessed. The Taliban.

The following is an extract from a recent reply to questions asked, via e-mail, by a non-Muslim, about the Taliban. The question from the Kaffir was a reasonable one:

You say that, “the Taliban represent genuine Islam”. Now, I do not doubt that the Taliban have been severely maligned in the West, but before the US occupation of Afghanistan the Taliban were responsible for the destruction of the two giant Buddha statues. This destruction could be seen as indicative of the intolerance Islam has for other religions, and does seem to contradict the impression you gave that Islam is respectful towards other religions.

The response from Deen Al-Islam:

What the West and its apostate lackeys think or believe about the Taliban and their actions - and what they use to base their kaffir opinions on - are irrelevant. One has to go beyond all the Zionist-Crusader rhetoric, lies and propaganda in order to understand the context and the truth of what occurred. The context was two-fold. First, the issue of the sanctions which the West imposed on Afghanistan, then one of the poorest countries in the world. The United Nations announced that it would give money to aid or support the protection of the restoration of the statues while many people in Afghanistan, as a result of the harsh, punitive sanctions imposed by the arrogant hypocritical West, were starving and dying of starvation. Many of the Taliban thus regarded this offer of aid for such statues as an insult, with the West and its lackeys seeming to favour such statues over the lives of Muslims.

Talk about spinning an answer! The harsh, punitive sanctions imposed by the arrogant hypocritical West? Must have learned that rhetoric from the Left. Don’t ask why sanctions were imposed on a despicable, barbaric, mid-evil regime like the Taliban that no civilized person or nation could stomach. Oh no! Think of the poor little Afghans who are so happy under the thumb of the Taliban and the arrogant hypocritical West who can’t seem to stomach their savageness and tries to end the suffering of the Afghans in the Taliban’s Sharia paradise.

Second, this gave impetus to the campaign to destroy the statues, which some Ulaamah in Afghanistan at the time regarded as idols which could, according to Quran and Sunnah, be destroyed if they were or had become a focus to divert people away from the path of Deen Al-Islam and thus from what is really important about life - which is Jannah; which is honour; and not this world, and not the preservation, at the cost of human lives, of some artefacts. Certainly, the statues had become the focus for “international attention” and thus became a type of idol for many..

So, let’s see. The West’s fixation on preserving a piece of archeological history for future generations is just idol worship?

And this statement takes the cake.

This Muslim way - the heart of Shariah - is a very civilized, a very human, way of doing things, and once again is a way, a means of doing things, which is far superior to each and every way of the arrogant West.

Storm Track Disinformation: The Schizophrenia of the Average Muslim

Shortly after the recent terrorist bombing attempts in London and Glasgow, the BBC printed some Muslim responses to the bomb attacks. It’s fascinating to see the their schizophrenic responses.

ABEDA TELADIA, 24, TEACHER, ESSEX

"There is never any justification for killing innocent human beings, yet myself and my husband suffer verbal abuse from ignorant people who wish to paint all Muslims with the same brush.”I just want people to know that I don't wear Muslim dress to scare people, it's just to cover me - it's not a symbol of aggression or terrorism."

Excuse me. Your Muslim dress is a symbol of aggression. Aggression against Western culture which Muslims would prefer not to live under according to recent polls.

And from the mouthpiece of the Islamists….

OSAMA SAEED, MUSLIM ASSOCIATION OF BRITAIN, SCOTLAND

"There have been some low-level incidents up until now - you expect it from a minority.”But I think there's a recognition that Muslims have been as bewildered as anyone about this. "And conceivably there's only two things that we can do - the first is to make it clear that there's no theological justification for any of this, and we've been doing that for years and will continue to do so.”

Low-level incidents? Jeeez! As for “no theological justification”, I don’t see the Muslim Association of Britain demanding radical mosques that teach their followers to kill the infidel be shut down.

And from the mouthpiece of Mr. Ramadan…

MOHAMMED SHAFIQ, RAMADAN FOUNDATION

"Foreign policy is a contributing factor to Britain being an increased risk. That's not my view, that's the view expressed by senior politicians across the board.

And …..

ABBAS SHAH, SHEFFIELD

"I do not feel safe in this country. On the one hand I have to worry about terrorists' attacks, and on the other hand I have to worry about having my house being raided on the guesswork of being a terrorist. "To top all this, the foreign policy of this country targets my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters in Iraq and Afghanistan to mention a few."

Yep – it’s the foreign policies fault. I disagree so I get to kill you.

MAJID ZIA, LONDON

"I believe that the Muslim community and the general public, both of whom are feeling unsafe from these attacks, need to stand united against all forms of terrorism. "Also we need to look at the root causes of terrorism to eliminate this dangerous threat as indeed there are many factors why this may be taking place."

But are you brave enough, once rooted out, to actively destroy those roots? I‘m talking about the virulent ideology of Political Islam – Islamism.

I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Storm Track Disinformation: Muslim Ruled State Doesn’t Promote Violence

Here’s another clue to the tactics used by Islamists to advance their agenda. I’ve been saying for quite some time that militant jihad is only one form of jihad. There are many other forms including media, institutional, cultural, litigation, demographic, and economic jihads.

All of these different jihads make up what the tactics they use to impose Islamic laws upon the world and re-create the Caliphate. And they are not shy about saying it. It’s us, the infidels, who can’t seem to believe it.

In an interview posted at PM (a program broadcast around Australia on Radio National and on ABC Local Radio) with a Federation of Islamic Students spokesman Chaaban Omran, he said:

Hizb ut-Tahrir is very active in Muslim student circles, promoting the idea of an international caliphate, or Muslim ruled state, but he says it does not promote violence.

I guess that's really all I'm saying. They can stand up and advocate for a particular cause without necessarily promoting violence.

Is he lying? No he’s not. He is making reference to the non-violent forms of jihad – otherwise known as political Islam – to advance the Islamist agenda peacefully throughout the world using the our very freedoms, multiculturalist ideas, political correctness and the actions of the appeasers, apologists and ‘useful idiots’ who assist in advancing that agenda in the free world. Not to mention the Islamist’s political insurgency into one-time moderate states like Malaysia and Indonesia.

We are being told in no uncertain terms what the adherents of Islamism plan to do but like Hitler’s Mein Kampf, their blatant plans for world domination is shrugged off as the rantings of some backwoods ideologues that should not be taken seriously. For the Leftist appeasers, apologists and useful idiots, global warming is more of threat to modern civilization than Islamism.

From the Jerusalem Post.

The Washington Post's Anne Applebaum might be right that the West has entered a "post-post-9/11" era. She noticed that the German, central European and British press each covered the recent G-8 summit very differently. From this, "it's pretty clear that that brief moment of consensus - those very few years when the world's most powerful governments all believed that the world's worst problem was international terrorism - has now passed."

Indeed, the focus was on global warming, Africa, globalization, missile defenses in Europe - anything but the rising Islamist menace. This is striking since, though there has not been another attack in the US like 9/11, there have been many more "9/11s" since the original almost six years ago, including in London and Madrid.

If we are going to win the war against Islamism we need to get our priorities straight and take our enemy’s words at face value. They’re planning for world domination. We’re planning to use less tissue paper.

The free world is asleep at the wheel. Or as Winston Churchill once quoted in his memoirs:

"Who's in charge of the clattering train?
The axles creak and the couplings strain
And the pace is hot and the points are near
And Sleep has deadened the driver's ear
And the signals flash through the night in vain
For Death is in charge of the clattering train"

Will we wake up in time?

Storm Track Disinformation: Creating A Terrorist, Eh, Tourist

This is what passes as news analysis at the Times of India. An article titled “How did Kafeel turn into a terrorist” seeks to explains how Kafeel Ahmed, the Indian engineer who suffered 90 per cent burns after driving the blazing jeep into the Glasgow airport terminal on June 30, “a religious, quiet and academically brilliant man turn into a terrorist”.

Here’s the Times in depth analysis.

According to the investigators, this is how it happened - Kafeel's life took a major turn after he left for the UK in 2001 for higher studies.

Higher studies in what? A Masters Degree in Engineering or a Masters in Jihad. The article doesn’t say.

Between 2001 and 2006 December, Kafeel was shuttling between Bangalore and the UK. During every visit to Bangalore, there was a visible change in him. His friends and family had noticed the change, but failed to recognise the future consequences.

Shuttling back and forth? Doesn’t sound like he applied much attention to his ‘higher degree’. And of course, family and friends are ALWAYS the last to know when a family member or close friend blows himself up.

So how did Kafeel come to such a fate? What drove him to seek the ultimate reward for killing infidels? Here’s the time line the Times proposes as the process of radicalization of Kafeel.

2001: A clean shaven 22-year-old Kafeel leaves Bangalore for the UK

2002: He comes to Bangalore with a French beard. His friends tease him, for which he says, "Just for a change"

2003: He visits Bangalore again and this time he has grown full beard. He is very vocal. He speaks about the Iraq war, Afghan war and the Chechnya conflict. He tells everyone, including his friends, "Muslims are being ill-treated across the world by others. There should be no border barriers among Muslims. All Muslims across the world should unite and fight against the injustice. We should shun all un-Islamic practices. We should take up mass conversions"

There it is folks. The bottom line reason according to the Times in depth analysis of why good, upstanding, intelligent, religious Muslims blow themselves up – it’s the beard!!

Just in case, the Times goes on with the usual Leftist tripe of possible motivations besides the beard.

Major events which turned Kafeel's mind were - the war on Afghanistan in 2002 by the US and UK; the US-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003 to remove Saddam Hussein; the decade-old Chechnya conflict ...

Blah, blah, blah blah…

I wonder if the Times research discovered that he might, just might, have attended some radical mosque or madrassa while in Bangalore that could shed some light on his mysterious conversion to Jihadism.

Naaaa…

Storm Track Disinformation: An Illusion of Harmony: Science and Religion in Islam

We constantly hear how if it weren’t for Islam, the West would still be in the Dark Ages and how Islam advanced the cause of knowledge – science included - during their Golden Age.

A new book by Physicist Taner Edis has an interrsting take on the ‘scientific approach’ of Islam. In his book “An Illusion of Harmony: Science and Religion in Islam” Edis examines the range of Muslim thinking about science and Islam, from blatantly pseudoscientific fantasies to comparatively sophisticated efforts to "Islamize science."

From the world’s strongest creationist movements to bizarre science-in-the-Quran apologetics, popular Muslim approaches promote a view of natural science as a mere fact-collecting activity that coexists in near-perfect harmony with literal-minded faith. Since Muslims are keenly aware that science and technology have been the keys to Western success, they are eager to harness technology to achieve a Muslim version of modernity. Yet at the same time, they are reluctant to allow science to become independent of religion and are suspicious of Western secularization. Edis examines all of these conflicting trends, revealing the difficulties facing Muslim societies trying to adapt to the modern technological world.

And there, according to Edis, is the Muslim problem of adapting to a 21st century world.

From one book reviewer.

Contrary to what some Muslims think, Islam is not a "scientific religion" and is not inherently friendly to science or scientific research. A chief problem lies in the book some Muslims keep claiming foreshadows modern science: the Qur'an.

For too many Muslims, the Qur'an contains all the truth a human being will ever need. With that attitude, what reason could there be for scientific institutions dedicated to learning more about how the world works or how to manipulate the world in order to improve the lot of humanity? Science and the scientific method are essentially founded on the belief that humans can learn more and improve, ideas which traditionalist Muslim clerics may reject as heresy.

Here’s a defensible intellectual foundation for the backward thinking of Muslims and their resistance to change. To change. To improve. To adapt - is heresy.

Muslims have tried to take advantage of modern developments while Islamicizing them, hoping to benefit from science without giving up what Islam provides. According to Tanis, this only creates an illusion of harmony.

And they’ve Islamicized not just science but also finance. When Imams try to adapt Islam into a modern world they come up with silly and illogical fatwas – like the recent fatwa for breastfeeding a man alone in an office with a Muslim working woman so the woman can remain ‘pure’. Many Muslims are constantly trying to force the square peg of Islam into a round 21st Century hole.

Even in relatively secular Turkey, Edis' native country, the situation is deplorable. Turkey is the home for the largest creationist movement outside of America — it's an anti-religion movement that draws from Christian creationists and reworks the material to suit a Muslim audience.

The state of science in the Muslim world today is not an esoteric question that makes little difference in the lives of average Americans. It is arguable that some of the most important religious developments in the West can be traced, at least in part, to science: the growth of secularization and the decline of religious certitude. These changes have seriously weakened the power of religious institutions and leaders, preventing them from dominating society, politics, government, and culture.

Science as practiced in the West is a direct threat to fundamentalist Islam.

Muslim hostility to science has helped prevent the same developments in the Muslim world. There is enthusiasm for technology, but not for basic science itself. The Muslim Brotherhood even went so far as to call for an end to science education in 1981. A thousand years ago science barely existed in Europe while cutting-edge scientific research was occurring in centers of Islamic learning; today, the situation is reversed. The consequences of little secularization coupled with extreme religious certitude are something everyone in the world must bear: religious terrorism.

Religious terrorism brought on by a rigid, irrational, unscientific approach to understanding the world.

And this review at Amazon.

After setting the stage, he then asks how leading Muslim thinkers have conceived of science and its relation to the restrictions of the Koran. Of course, at this point, Edis might have stopped. Once restrictions are imposed, science slows down or stops. Though Edis, unlike some other commentators, speaks respectfully about Islam, this requires a certain indifference to the elephant in the room -- Islam has not contributed anything to modern science.

It contributed to medieval science, but that was a different animal. Edis writes, "When European science began to take off, education and intellectual life in Muslim lands was completely dominated by orthodox scholars and sufi saints, neither of whom encouraged attention to knowledge that did not have any explicit religious purpose."

The political collapse of Islam in front of expanding Europe (and even expanding but not very modern Russia) forced a reassessment. Edis traces the different approaches various Muslims have taken in trying to tap the obvious advantages of modern thought without abandoning the social harmony on which Islam prides itself. A number of Islamic schools of thought have thought that it could be done.

Edis, correctly, considers these all to have been failures -- illusions of harmony.

"An Illusion of Harmony" is probably as fair and respectful a hearing of the options facing Islamic pr-modernism as Muslims are ever likely to get.

Those are examples of the rising Jihad temperature of for this week. When seen in groups like this, the slow boil becomes obvious.

Next week a look back at the rising Jihad temperature of Islamist appeasement!!
