Storm Track Disinformation: US Moves Up the Global Peace

First the bad news. In 2007, the United Sates ranked as one of the worse war-mongering countries in the world. At least according to the Global Peace Index.

Now the good news. We were a little less war-mongering in 2008. Don’t ask me why but let’s look at the peace loons’ results.

The U.S. inched slightly higher on the Global Peace Index. The creators of the list look at a variety of factors in determining how peaceful a country is -- military spending, percentage of population incarcerated, crime rates, etc. -- and this year, out of 140 nations, we ranked 97th. Last year, we ranked 96th, although the pool of nations included was smaller -- 121. According to the Visions of Humanity (the group that puts the list together) that translates to a seven-point bump for us. True, Rwanda, China and Syria are among those who are more peaceful than the U.S.
