Storm Track Disinformation: The Fallacy of Islam Equivalency

How many times have you heard this from your leftist friends when speaking about the barbarism of radical Islam?

“Oh yeah, what about the Inquisition? What about the Ku Klux Klan. What about Timothy McVeigh? What about radical Christians who blow up abortion clinics? Huh? What about them? Huh?”

So how do you respond to such moral equivalency pap as that? Respond with this.

More people are killed by Islamists each year than in all 350 years of the Spanish Inquisition combined. ( source)

More civilians were killed by Muslim extremists in two hours on September 11th than in the 36 years of sectarian conflict in Northern Ireland. (source)

Islamic terrorists murder more people every day than the Ku Klux Klan has in the last 50 years. (source)

19 Muslim hijackers killed more innocents in two hours on September 11th than the number of American criminals executed in the last 65 years. (source)

And one last thing. All those “What about’s” the leftist spout should realize that those monsters described above where dealt with as OUR civilization evolved. Can’t say that about Islam – still stuck in the 9th century and still killing and murdering around the globe.

  • WC,
    Excellent post!

Kinda puts things into perspective, huh?

  • Yes it does.

I hate the moral equivalent crowd. I tell them jihadists are blowing themselves up on a daily basis in the name of Islam and they say "So? What about the abortion clinic bomber?" When was the last one? 10 friggin years ago? Geeeshh

In Robert Spencer's last book, he stated that McVeigh was an athiest. So McVeigh isnt even on the table.

  • I respond with

"Counterexample is not refutation. You are ignorant about Islam because if you knew anything about Islam you would have reponded by discussing Islam.. instead ou respond with something else... that's because you reflexively have to respond to me but don't know anything about the subject and so you change the subject"

But aren't those who use the moral equivalency argument changing the subject instead of confronting the extremist acts of Islam?

Trying to say that others do the same thing does not make Muslim actions correct.

  • To paraphrase what has been said so far: two wrongs don't make a right.

Thanks for this post, I have referenced it on my new site: farleftwatch.wordpress.com

Vince: That's exactly my point... the people who change the subject do so using the tactic of counterexample.

My comemnt above was what I direct at them. When you tell them they're changing the subject they often just ignore the charge.. but if you tell they're merely providing (false) counterexamples and that it's illogical I've found it's harder for them to justify.
