Storm Track Appeasement: Democrats Backing Bill Granting Legal Rights to Terrorists

“No people in history have ever survived who thought they could protect their freedom by making themselves inoffensive to their enemies.”
Dean Acheson

The ignorance of the Left knows no bounds. Just how long will the left continue to see this war against Islamism as just a criminal investigation? How much longer will they stick their heads in the sand while helping our enemies to defeat us – or as Lenin once said, “The West will sell us the rope to hang them with.”

The most recent example of the Left’s ignorance of the threat is being proposed by Democrats in the Senate.

Senate Democrats are backing a bill that would grant new legal rights to terror suspects held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, including the right to a lawyer regardless of whether the prisoners are put on trial. The proposal, approved this week by the Senate Armed Services Committee, also would narrow the definition of an enemy combatant and tighten restrictions on the types of evidence used to keep a person detained.

The legislation has caused alarm at the White House, which considers it a potential veto target, and among congressional Republicans, including Sen. Lindsey Graham, who said he was concerned that aspects of the bill may go too far. "Any changes have to meet the test for me that they will not compromise our ability to wage war," Graham said Friday.

You’re talking to the dead, Sen. Graham. The Democrats don’t believe we’re at war. Never did and most likely never will. It’s not politically correct. They can’t even come up with a name for it. Courtesy of John Edwards.

"We need a post-Bush, post-9/11, post-Iraq military that is mission focused on protecting Americans from 21st century threats, not misused for discredited ideological purposes," Edwards said in remarks prepared for delivery. "By framing this as a war, we have walked right into the trap the terrorists have set—that we are engaged in some kind of clash of civilizations and a war on Islam."

Poor deluded fools. Deluded but not stupid. Dems know how to use the troops to advance their politically correct agenda.

Democratic Sen. Carl Levin, chairman of the Armed Services Committee, tucked the new detainee measure into a $649 billion defense policy bill for budget year that begins Oct. 1.

The committee bill was drafted in private and approved by a 25-0 vote. Sens. Graham, Warner and McCain, now the top Republican on the committee, raised no formal objections to the detainee provisions. "I am open to making the process better," Graham said, but "it has to meet the test that we're in a shooting war."

Good luck convincing the Dems, Sen. Graham. Seeing this conflict as a shooting war is the direct opposite of how the Democrats see it.

Read THE GATHERING STORM eBook (with an Introduction by ex-terrorist Walid Shoebat) that contains 300 pages of hyperlinked information, pictures, cartoons and videos that details the intimidation, infiltration and disinformation tactics Islamists are using to advance their goal of the Islamic rule of the world.

  • Your point is magnificent! That is the problem that polarizes in America; viz., the Democrats refuse to acknowledge there is a War on Terror.

Definitely rules of criminal law are far different than the rules of war.

And what is most terrible is that America's terrorist enemy is not a sovereign nation. The enemy is stateless terrorists that have not signed nor intend to honor the Geneva Conventions. Yet Democrats and global Leftists expect America to abide by the rules of the Geneva Convention with an enemy that has not signed the conventions and indeed cannot for the Islamofascist enemy is not a sovereign nation.
